Clerk of Works
Mobile/home-based with regular travel across the East of England
Salary: Up to £52,700pa + £5,000pa car allowance.
Hours: Full-time (35 hours) with part-time/flexible working pattern considered
The Role:
You will contribute to the ongoing delivery of the Hastoe New-Build Standard by providing an excellent quality control service on new build affordable housing projects. You will provide technical support to the wider development team at all stages of development. You will also be instrumental in tackling and resolving latent defects and historical issues, working closely with contractors and consultants, including in relation fire prevention related defects.
About you:
We are looking for someone with:
- Strong technical knowledge of house building/construction
- Knowledge of different regulations affecting the construction of affordable homes
- Experience of dealing with and resolving latent defects (fire related would be a bonus)
- Someone who enjoys a varied workload that brings positive results for residents
- The ability to build and maintain good working relations with a range of people
- Good IT literacy (with an ability to learn new systems)
- The ability to work under your own initiative as well as enjoy being part of a team
- The ability to work remotely and travel regularly across the East of England

Quality Inspector

As a Quality Inspector, you will be responsible for monitoring the construction process, including exacting standards of finish to ensure that homes meet or exceed quality and building safety standards expected by our customers.
During your day-to-day role, you will work closely with our production, technical, buying, sales and customer service teams along with other members of the quality team (including our specialist M&E team), working independently.
You will identify and assist in the resolution of issues before project completion and the quality team will inspect and sign off every new private sale home through our Ready to Move In (RTMI) process.

Mechanical Engineering Quality Inspector
Chelmsford

The role
The Engineering Quality Inspector (Mech) will undertake inspections and reviews of contractor’s design and installation solutions, ensuring that engineering systems comply with Council specifications, statutory requirements, and industry best practice.
Educated to HNC/City & Guilds, with an extensive knowledge of site-based mechanical engineering installations and a deep understanding of current engineering standards, statutory provisions and building regulations. This role will act as a conduit between the Council and contractor partners, so the ability to build strong working relationships is essential, as is experience of managing and resolving challenging situations and promoting the Council's energy efficiency targets.
About us
The Infrastructure Delivery team will develop and deliver the capital programme for Essex County Council, principally education projects, but also libraries, Council offices and other works.
Accountabilities
· Responsible for monitoring and inspecting the progress of mechanical engineering elements of construction projects on site, ensuring workmanship is in accordance with the contract and appropriate statutory and industry standards.
· Works collaboratively with internal and external construction partners, engage in value engineering exercises, ensuring implications of value engineering decisions are recorded.
· Delivers to the project manager/sponsor, quality, and performance reports, outlining progress against the project plan, highlighting concerns and risks. Maintains effective communication with the contractor and Infrastructure Delivery team.
· Acts as the delegated NEC project supervisor, issuing appropriate notifications as required.
· Accountable for reviewing additional work outside the scope of the contract.
· Delivers a detailed inspection of the work at practical or sectional completion, to ensure that defective, missing or incomplete work is recorded and presented to the contractor. Assists the project manager/sponsor in determining practical completion, delivering reports on the project performance of the Council’s appointed contracting partners.
· Work collaboratively with the project manager and contractor to deliver a programme of defect rectification.
· Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
· Educated to HNC/City & Guilds in engineering trades or equivalent by experience.
· Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
· Extensive knowledge of site-based engineering installations. Including commercial Ventilation, Heating Systems, Domestic Water Services, Renewables and Control Systems (BMS)
· Deep understanding of current engineering standards, statutory provisions and building regulations.
· Evidence of analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Holder of a valid CSCS card or prepared to undertake the relevant training to obtain one.
· An ability to build strong relationships and partnerships which encourage collaboration and engender delivery.
· Experience of influencing and delivering change in complex and challenging situations.
· Experience with Microsoft Office.

The Dulwich Estate
The Dulwich Estate is looking for an experienced Clerk of Works to provide a professional building surveying service. The role is crucial to the successful completion of all the Estate’s projects, achieving value for money, the highest quality delivery of projects, and adherence to recognised quality and safety standards per design information and drawings.
Salary: Up to £45,000 depending upon experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
- Inspect the Estate’s repairs, refurbishments and construction works to ensure that it meets standards and health and safety requirements
- Identify, survey, specify, and tendering for routine repairs, redecoration, and maintenance work of commercial and residential freeholds and residential leasehold property, Edward Alleyn House alms houses, Christ’s Chapel, the Estate offices, and the Tollgate)
- Raise orders for minor works, monitor the works, and approve invoices on completion.
- Survey, specify, tender, and obtain estimates for works of maintenance and repair, and analyse tenders and prepare tender reports (using Word and Excel)
- Carry out visual inspections and snagging of the works in progress and report back to the Principal Building Surveyor
- Liaise with other construction professionals on contracts and identifying defects and suggesting ways these can be corrected
- Prepare specifications and oversee works for maintenance contracts which include general amenity area maintenance, rented property maintenance, central heating, entry phone systems, electrical and gas testing contracts, monitoring and overseeing standards of work on site
- Refer to plans and take photographs of work along with any measurements required
- Check for compliance in line with HMO regulations
- Ensure effective communication with colleagues, construction professionals, contractors, engineers, surveyors, suppliers, lessees and tenants by telephone, email and other written correspondence.
Person Specification
- HNC / HND or equivalent
